American Communism
This collection consists of materials published by and about the North American communist movement. While communism in the United States dates back to the 19th century, the majority of our materials are from the post-war period. They have diverse focuses: internecine conflict, party building, and international solidarity are primary focuses. Controversy regarding support for the Soviet Union during and after World War II is covered. Materials concerning the formation, development, and criticism of the CPUSA are included. Of local interest are our materials by the various communist formations in Berkeley in the seventies and eighties. There are a number of publications which support the Chicano movement under a Marxist-Leninist rubric as a national liberation movement. Publications included are primarily periodicals, monographs, and books.
